Since December 2024, Héma-Québec has assumed full responsibility for the supply and distribution of human tissues for the entire Quebec healthcare network.
Among the products included in our catalog, demineralized bone matrices (DBM) is the one whose offering has undergone the most changes. Despite information sessions held prior to the mandate (which you can watch here) and webinars specifically on DBMs with LifeNet Health and Bioventus, we have observed a strong use of specialized, more expensive products, generally reserved for complex surgical cases.
Although the price of these niche DBMs was lowered with the implementation of the mandate, their increased use is driving up costs for hospitals.
Following consultations with the network and some of our consultants, we concluded that this was probably due to a partial understanding of our DBM offer, caused in particular by the rationalization of available sources and the difficulty of reaching all users.
Aware of the clinical and budgetary impact on establishments, we have designed a user support guide to help teams choose the DBMs best suited to the complexity of clinical cases. We invite you to consult it now to facilitate your clinical decisions.
