The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) and its Direction de la biovigilance et de la biologie médicale have entrusted Héma-Québec with the task of monitoring the adverse reactions of human tissue transplants. This centralized monitoring covers all human tissue, whether provided by Héma-Québec or another supplier, as stated in the letter sent by MSSS to the executive directors and directors of professional services of health institutions on February 19, 2013. Héma-Québec was chosen because it already provides the majority of human tissue distributed in Québec.

Any report of a failure, accident or adverse reaction must be made by an individual authorized by the health care facility. This can be the transplanting physician, an individual in charge of post-transplant follow-up, a nurse or someone who has been assigned to the task. It is important that the institution’s designated individual coordinate the identification of adverse reactions and inform any health care personnel doing post-transplant follow-up about the reporting process.

If you have an adverse reaction to report, immediately call Héma-Québec at 1-800-267-9711, ext. 2510. Héma-Québec will help the designated individual assess and investigate the situation and will ensure that the information is shared with MSSS and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
